    Frequently Asked Questions

If your questions aren’t answered in the information below, please call us at 559-408-8228.

We offer a wide variety of services, including individualized tutoring, study skill development, SAT/ACT preparation, math workshops, English writing workshops and more.

We’ve found that students who begin preparing for college in 6th grade are well ahead of those who delay till later. For example, completing Spanish 1, 2 and 3 in middle school leaves room in the high school schedule for classes that make a difference.

Costs vary according to the service provided: Tutoring, Test Preparation, College Planning, Practice Tests, Week-Long Classes etc. Call or meet with us to discuss your student’s individual needs.

As of 2026, the SAT and/or ACT are mandatory for students seeking merit scholarships or in-state tuition. This has prevented many of our students from applying to some colleges as they didn’t have mandatory scores to send. Since the SAT and ACT are so important, we prioritize getting an early jump on preparation. While historically the SAT has been the standard for college admission, today the ACT is more widely accepted – and it has been revamped with fewer questions, longer time and the option to complete it online, making it the preferred choice for students.

AP courses can be quite important, depending on the college a student is considering. Colleges look at unweighted GPAs and to determine acceptance.

The benefits of Early Action include a higher acceptance rate and commitment, and since merit scholarship funds are awarded first-come, first-serves, we advise all students to apply Early Action.

STAR - Various colleges require this report that consists of transcript information.

CSS Profile - Your family's tax return must be uploaded for private schools however, not based on family's income. Both parents & students need to complete.

FAFSA - Needed for financial aid, also requires tax returns uploaded.

Interestingly, college admissions counselors are NOT looking for an essay. Rather, they are looking for a narrative – something unique about the student not found elsewhere in the application. This is an opportunity for your student to tell their story and describe what makes them stand out.

Yes, we offer test prep courses for MCAT, LSAT, DAT and other tests required in professional fields. Many of our students return to CPTC after earning their undergraduate degrees to prepare for medical, dental, veterinary and law school applications.
